Louise Redknapp would be 'beyond excited' if her sons wanted to be pop stars

Louise Redknapp is gearing up to release her first album in 20 years.

And the busy mum-of-two has admitted she'd be thrilled if one or both of her sons wanted to follow in her footsteps and pursue a career in the musical spotlight.

She told MailOnline: 'If my kids come to me one day and say that they'd like to be in that kind of industry, I should probably say I'd suggest they don't. But I'm not going to say that because I'd be beyond bloody excited!'

Like mother like sons? Louise Redknapp has admitted she'd be thrilled if one or both of her sons wanted to follow in her footsteps and pursue a career in the musical spotlight

Louise shares Charles, 15, and Beau, 10, with ex-husband Jamie - who can frequently be seen with his boys playing football and all manner of sports on his Instagram stories.

But Louise, 45, insists her sons have inherited her musical genes too.

'The younger one is one of the best rappers I have ever heard!' she gushed. 'He won't ever let me film him, but he can do any rap. There is not an Eminem lyric he doesn’t know!'

But Louise admits their dad's - and granddad Harry's - passion for sports is the driving force when it comes to her kids.

She told MailOnline: 'If my kids come to me one day and say that they'd like to be in that kind of industry, I should probably say I'd suggest they don't. But I'm not going to say that because I'd be beyond bloody excited'

'I have football to compete with. And rugby. And cricket,' the Stretch singer said.

Louise's new album - Heavy Love - comes out in early 2020 - pushed back due to her commitments touring with 9 To 5: The Musical.

'I can't wait to drop the album, it's been ready to go for a while. But we have had to push things back because of the TV promotion that's required. If we'd have released it this year, as planned, it would have all crossed over with 9 To 5 and I can't really just have the night off from that!' she explained.

Triple threat: Louise admitted she has plans to continue acting; and that she'd like to try out some 'straighter' roles

She went on: 'This past year I've just always seemed to be on stage. Which I love. But when this tour is over, that's it for now. I then go on tour with my new music in March.'

Of her sons, Louise admitted that, despite having a busy schedule, she refuses to succumb to 'mum guilt'.

'Yeah, I work hard. But I am so lucky with my job because I can still have time off in between. I'm lucky to spend tome doing what I love but also have a lot of time at home.

Of touring, Louise went on: 'I love doing the West End, but I also love places like Liverpool; and Manchester is home from home. The audiences in Glasgow are so much fun. It all works well because I get to go up on a Tuesday and come back on a Saturday.'

Louise admitted she has plans to continue acting; and that she'd like to try out some 'straighter' roles.

'I want to do a straight play. I want to do a few more acting roles,' she admitted. 'I have some stuff coming up – more castings and meetings. It's stuff I am looking at doing but it's all very recent. It's all in the pipeline.'

Louise's new album, Heavy Love, is released on January 17 2020.
